Luxury Conversion of a Rural Steading in Aberlady, East Lothian

Jones Robbins Tobin transformed Kilberry House in rural East Lothian, carefully reworking a windswept 1980s family home and its adjacent hay barn to create a cohesive contemporary dwelling.

The design introduces a glazed link that forms a sheltered entrance while physically and visually connecting the house to the converted barn, now used for social and leisure spaces with expansive views toward the Garleton Hills. Internally, the existing structure was thoughtfully adapted, with bespoke joinery, oak panelling and refined detailing bringing new life to familiar elements such as the original staircase.

Throughout the project, the focus remained on craft, longevity and a strong relationship to the surrounding landscape. The result is a calm, modern home that balances warmth, sustainability and a renewed connection to its East Lothian setting.
