Ettrick Road | Edinburgh

A reconciliation and considered extension to a large dwelling within a conservation area in Edinburgh.
Our vision for the project was to create an array of pitched roof extensions to the rear of a detached property in Edinburgh, which would sit in harmony with the existing structure. We were approached to explore ways in which we could consolidate previous extension additions into one unified proposal, which wraps the rear and side of the existing house. The proposed alterations include a new open kitchen living room including a central hearth, with circulation routes branching into the existing house, utility spaces, wine cellar and the formal dining room. At first floor level a home office offers views of the tree lined garden, with a gym and bathroom cleverly added to the side accommodation.
The contemporary extension provides a contrast to the existing stone villa, adding to the building’s rich history with considered and contextual design.
